SIBU: All Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Kanowit committee members had unanimously left the party yesterday.
The announcement was made by the former chairman, George Chen, in a statement yesterday.
However, the press statement did not disclose the number of committee members that had resigned.
“With the current situation facing us, we unanimously agreed that the members of the PKR Kanowit committee members selected for the 2018-2021 term would immediately relinquish all our positions in the party. We thank the party leaders for providing us with a platform to serve the community and the nation,” he said.
Chen said the party’s internal turmoil forced them to make the move.
“In the last 20 years, we have had many moments of joy and sorrow. The sweetest moment was our victory in the 14th general election (GE14) where PKR became the largest political party in Pakatan Harapan (PH).
“However, the joy did not last long due to the party’s internal conflict soon after PKR’s Nov 2018 election which split the party into two factions and indirectly caused the fall of PH in late February of this year. It is sad to say that we wasted more than two decades of hard work, time, and money building the party,” he said.
Chen said the dismissal of some senior party leaders in Sarawak by the new state leadership council (MPN) and central party leadership also played a part in their decision to leave the party.
“We are disappointed that they fired some of our senior leaders recently. So, we have lost confidence in the party’s top leaders after considering the move as an unreasonable act which has shattered our hopes,” he said.
