SERIAN: PKR Serian lost a vice-chairman yesterday hardly 24 hours after its formation was published in a local daily.
Mathew American Lidud (pic), one of three appointed as the branch vice-chairman, told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday that he was leaving the party and wanted nothing to do with it anymore.
“The line-up was drawn sometime beginning of last year and at that time I agreed to be included in the list.
“Between then and yesterday, I had not had any communication with the branch because I had lost interest in the party.
“In fact, I decided almost immediately after a meeting in 2018 that PKR is not the right party for me,” American said.
He pointed out that he was “rather surprised” that the line-up only made the page of the local daily (not the New Sarawak Tribune) on Friday.
He said while he was present when the Serian PKR line–up was drawn in 2018, he was not present for the official media announcement on Friday, “which explains my absence in the photo accompanying the published news”.
American said his stand now is that Sarawak must be governed by Sarawakians.
He said developments in recent weeks showed the dangers Sarawak is exposed to if Malayan parties are in control of Petra Jaya.
“To me, parties like PKR must be stopped from holding power in Sarawak otherwise we will lose everything.” he said.
