SIBU: Pay attention to road closures during the Street Parade rehearsals on August 10 and August 11, as well as on the event day, August 12.
Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said that the roads will be closed from 5 pm until the end of the events.
The affected road are Bulatan Rosli Dhoby/ Jalan Bujang Suntung, Kampung Dato Traffic Light, Jalan Agung (behind RH Hotel), Lorong Maybank (beside RH Hotel), Jalan Brooke Drive, Jalan Sanyan, Jalan Ramin, Jalan Lintang, Jalan Sentral, Premier Hotel traffic light, Sibu Gateway traffic light and Lebuh Tanahmas (infront Premier Hotel), Simpang Lebuh Tinggi, Simpang Jalan Bengkel (beside Jun Rong), simpang Jalan Khoo Peng Loong, Jalan Lembangan, Jalan Tukang Besi, Jalan Bank, Jalan Wharf, Jalan Sanyan (near temporary transit centre (TTG) for homeless).
“These road closures are necessary to ensure the smooth Street Parade in celebration of Sarawak’s 60 years of Independence,” Zulkipli said during a press conference at Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) today (August 4).
The parade will include 60 contingents, starting at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 2, Jalan Kampung Nyabor, RH Hotel, Jalan Sanyan, Jalan Lintang, Sibu Heritage Centre, Jalan Bengkel, Sibu Central Market, Sibu Night Market, Jalan Pulau, and ending in front of Chiang Corridor.
“The public is advised to park their vehicles at designated areas, such as public parking spaces at Jalan Kampung Dato, Jalan Tunku Osman, and Jalan Awang Ramli Amit,” he added.
Zulkipli also reminded everyone not to park by the roadside and to follow the traffic control signs given by on-duty policemen.
