KOTA KINABALU: The management of Oceanus Waterfront Mall here is mulling over a plan to turn the premises into a tourism mall.
Its chairman Datuk CK Tan said there are various plans afoot to realise the vision with more tenants and programmes to attract crowds to the mall.
“The mall still has a bright future, but we (tenants) need to work together through a strategic partnership,” he said at Sabah’s largest yee sang tossing ceremony at the mall in conjunction with Chinese New Year here yesterday.
He said the sea frontage of the mall will be turned into an international standard tourist sunset bar, fully equipped with facilities for a variety of performances.
Tan expressed optimism that despite the uphill task the mall management is facing now, the various issues would eventually be resolved amicably.
“We are fully aware of the loss amounting to millions incurred by tenants over the years, but that is not the end, as we are moving towards the recovery or reviving the mall into a profitable and must-visit mall,” he said.
Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew said the plan would benefit tourists to the state.
“The mall is strategically located with a sea view, but despite having past issues, the building is nice as it is very difficult to find a mall facing the sea,” she said after attending the ceremony. –Bernama
