KUCHING: The 5G Advanced which is eight times faster than 5G will be used at the coming Malaysia Games (Sukma) in August.
Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil said the 5G Advanced also known as 5.5G will only be available in Kuching with Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM).
“The 5G Advanced is a new technology that has not yet been widely used.
“The Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has received applications from several telcos that intend to work together with RTM to make Sukma streaming or broadcasting using 5G Advance or 5.5G,”he said.
Fahmi said several things need working on because some technical aspects still need further studying.
“It is a field test but we must allow telcos to initiate 5G Advance for the purpose of field test proof of concept (POC),” he said.
Fahmi said this to reporters after a casual meeting session with the Madani Kuching Community here on Sunday (May 26).
Fahmi added that the difference between 5G Advance and 5G is that 5G can get a maximum of 1 Gbps with 1000 Mbps but with 5G Advanced, it can reach more than 8 Gbps.
“So, that is eight times faster (and) this speed is needed especially in the field of broadcasting if we want to insert certain live elements in the broadcast, so I see this is quite an interesting technology.
“We will try to implement it in conjunction with Sukma in August,” he said.
