KUCHING: Three former Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth leaders, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and Datuk Ibrahim Baki, took a moment from their busy schedules to engage in a casual conversation together.
On today (Nov 17) afternoon, Abdul Karim, who is also the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, visited Nanta here to brief him on the upcoming Sarawak Youth Day, which will be held for the first time in Kapit from Dec 1 to 3.
“I am very happy to be here with Datuk Seri Nanta now as I just finished chairing the meeting earlier on Sarawak Youth Day.
“Kapit was specifically chosen because I feel that the other big divisions have already been done, and we cannot put aside Kapit despite it being a small place.
“We also want Kapit to be included with this youth programme, and we are expecting thousands of youth to be there on the dates set,” he said.
He added that there would be a line-up of activities, and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, will also be present to officiate at the youth programme.
“Besides that, Datuk Seri Nanta also suggested that a longhouse in Ulu Sungai Yong be gazetted as a heritage building.
“Thus, I will do my very best, and if time permits, I want to visit the said longhouse during the Sarawak Youth Day and have a look at the longhouse,” he said.
He said the proposed longhouse to be gazetted as a heritage building could also be a potential tourism product.
Meanwhile, Nanta, who is also the PBB secretary-general and Kapit MP, expressed his appreciation to Abdul Karim for taking the time to update him about the upcoming Sarawak Youth Day.
“Thank you for choosing Kapit, and we also look forward to the good news on the longhouse,” he said.
Also seen joining the conversation between Nanta and Abdul Karim was PBB deputy-secretary general, Datuk Ibrahim Baki.
