KUCHING: In response to the rising number of kidney disease patients, the Sarawak Turf & Equestrian Club (STEC) Kidney Foundation announced plans to organise more awareness campaigns.

Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, president of the foundation, highlighted the importance of these programmes in promoting healthy living and reducing the need for dialysis treatment.

“The increase in dialysis patients, particularly younger ones, is alarming,” Dr Sim said during cheque presentation ceremony by Messrs Natural Avenue Sdn Bhd to the foundation on Wednesday (Feb 21).

Dr Sim praised Natural Avenue for its continuous support since the foundation’s establishment on January 20, 1998, despite challenges like COVID-19 disruptions, and economic downturns.

He also emphasised the foundation’s role in supporting 20 patients who cannot afford dialysis treatments across Sarawak.

“Our beneficiaries, coming from diverse racial backgrounds and mostly low-income or on social welfare, have been receiving our support for over 18 years in some cases,” he added.
