KUCHING: Areas under Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) are rapidly developing and poised to undergo transformational changes.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said there are development strategies and long-term initiatives in place to further develop DBKU areas.
“For Satok, we will develop roads from Segedup towards Petra Jaya, particularly in the Tupong area, where it is quite (densely populated).
“Therefore, we have to increase the infrastructure in the Tupong area as development continues towards areas like Pantai Damai, especially Telaga Air, which falls within the DBKU jurisdiction.
“In Telaga Air, there is a major project, which is the construction of i-CATS University in Trombol, and it will undoubtedly open up various developments in the surrounding area,” he said.
He said this during the DBKU’s Hari Raya gathering held at UCSI Hotel here last night (May 3).
Abang Johari added the areas in Segedup will also undergo a similar resettlement programme as in Sungai Bedaun, where a large area has been identified for the purpose.
“Hence, this is one of the rapid developments including the construction of the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) Central Station in front of the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre (HEEC),” he said.
He added there is also a long-term plan for areas like Semariang covering Semariang Pinggir and Kampung Semariang, with a new concept similar to the development of the Darul Hana area.
“This means that DBKU will become an area that we will transform,” said Abang Johari.
Among those present were Abang Johari’s wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang; Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri; Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali; Chief Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman; and Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki.
