KABONG: The Fire and Rescue Department in Sarawak hopes to have 1,000 Community Fire Brigades.
Consequently, the goal of instructing 10,000 individuals on fire safety awareness will be achieved, said department director Datuk Khirudin Drahman @ Hussaini.
“As of now, the department has successfully trained 921 units and 9,187 community firefighters.
“We therefore want to train up to 10,000 members by establishing up to 1,000 Community Fire Brigades throughout Sarawak by the end of this year,” he said during the “Fire Safety is a Shared Responsibility” safety awareness programme closing at Tanjung Kembang Beach by Kabong Assemblyman Mohd Chee Kadir.
A total of 53 people participated in the programme held in conjunction with the Kabong Assemblyman Service Center over two days.
It also saw the delivery of 20 fire extinguisher units given by the assemblyman.
Khirudin said the department was constantly empowering the Community Fire Brigade and the Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS).
He explained that as a result, PBS registration is now in the process of being transferred from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to the department.
