LUNDU: Friends of Rivers is one of the platforms that showcase the cooperation between the community and the Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB).
“Friends of Rivers is important as it can be the eyes and ears of government agencies, to report any matter related to river safety and cleanliness.
“Aside from that, this programme also aims to create safety awareness among villagers when they use riverine transportation.
“A total of 132 residents of Kampung Selampit have registered as members of Friends of Rivers,” said Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.
He was speaking at a programme at Kampung Selampit last Saturday (July 16). During the programme, he also released 15,000 fish fry into the river.
Also present were SRB chairman Dr Murni Suhaili, acting SRB controller Lt-Col (Rtd) Ding Tiew Wong and Lundu District officer Gustian Durani.
