SIBU: The Lions International Peace Poster drawing competition provides a platform for the young minds to express their views on the turbulent world out there.

President of the Lions Club of Sibu Pahlawan (LCSP) Dr David Ling Sien Ngan said similarly, how peace need to be promoted, encouraged and sustained for, the communities, nations, humanity, and for the whole world, to enable humankind to live in harmony and brotherhood.

“The wars in the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, South America, and the latest one between the great power Russia and Ukraine, remind us of the importance of coexistence in this world.

“The contest for supremacy through geopolitical competition is not healthy. Great Power contest amongst nuclear armed countries, through proxy war is dangerous. It may go out of control.

“Every humanity on earth can be affected,” he stated when addressing at the presentation of prizes ceremony for the winners of the Peace Poster Contest organised by LCSP at Wong Nai Siong Secondary School here yesterday.

Governor of Lions International District 308 A2, Kapitan Connie Loh Ming Hua was present to officiate at the event which was participated by 74 students.

Dr Ling pointed out a nuclear war have never been fought in the history of mankind but any miscalculation will terminate the civilisation, giving a guaranteed, mutual assured destruction (MAD).

This shows the magnitude of important for humankind to continue living in peace, he said. “Peace does not just happen or come about by itself. We need to actively involve to promote it as our way of life.

“Let not the race and religion be the hindrance and the dividing factor, to crumble our peace,” he stressed. History have shown that intolerance towards these two factors were the main culprit that caused the two world wars, he said, adding let it not be the cause for the Third World War.

He said each individual and community needs to allow a free choice to choose how they live their life. “This is why we should not belittle existence of peace in our midst but promote it through such simple event, the peace poster competition.

“Let diversity be our strength to maintain our peace internationally. Every one of you plays a tremendous role in keeping peace in the world,” Dr Ling further stated. He was glad to see the great interest shown by the students toward the Lions International Peace Poster drawing competition, as was in the past.

Meanwhile in the competition, Henna Yong Hi Chi was the champion followed by Renee Yii Qian Rui as first runner-up and Emersion Ting Zhi Hung was placed third.

There were also five other consolation winners comprosong Wong Qin Guan, Bernice Hii Jia Yan, Ngiam Ke Li, Amber Loh Kiew Eng and John Edward Sia Yu Hao.
