KUCHING: The Sarawak ICT & Multimedia Apprentice Raising Talent (SMART) incubator programme is a platform that helps youths venture into the field of multimedia entrepreneurship and creative industries.
Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) deputy director-general for entrepreneurship Datuk Zulfikri Osman said it was consistent with the provision of training and skills given to graduates of institutions and the unemployed in order for them to become successful entrepreneurs after attending this programme.
“At SMART incubator, we have collaborated with two mentors who focus on the creative industry.
“Two cohorts of trainees that were trained here have successfully finished their programme.
“All of the trainees from both cohorts were successful in starting their own firms in the creative sector.”
Zulfikri said this at the memorandum of understanding (MoU) and strategic cooperation ceremony in conjunction with the inauguration of the SMART incubator programme here on Wednesday (June 29).
He added that Mara planned to collaborate with a number of organisations to support the incubators in their efforts to develop more talent and participants in the state’s creative sector.
Among the parties involved in the MoU were Unesco ICH (Malaysia), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), Sarawak Arts Council (MSS) and National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas).
