Today’s convention reaffirms the political union of the four component parties of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS). Thus it is as important to Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) as it is to GPS as a whole, said PDP youth chief Robert Ayu.

“PDP, alongside Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) is committed to the ‘Sarawak First’ ideals of GPS,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.

He said that the party leadership is keen to show this commitment to the leadership and delegates of each allied party.

“The GPS Convention will be a litmus test of the confidence of PDP leadership and delegates in GPS.  The expected turnout is already a testament of this cooperation and the mutual alignment in our political aspirations.”

Ayu opined that the convention serves as an introduction of the coalition to rural dwellers as its launch might not have been known to them.

“By bringing people from all corners of Sarawak to this convention they can understand more what the coalition is fighting for. News will be spread back home where access to the Internet is still lacking.”

He added that the current issues to be discussed would enlighten party members and the strategic open discussions with members are good ways to approach the issues.
