KUCHING: Rimba emerged the Best Cat in the annual Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) International Cat Competition 2024 here over the weekend.

The competition at MyDin Petrajaya, Vista Tunku showcased cats of different breeds and sizes, but Rimba captured the judges’ hearts, standing out among the 92 cats competing for the title.

Rimba, an eight-month-old brown Bengal cat with distinctive green eyes owned by Jordan Arkin, 26, travelled from Serian to Petra Jaya just to participate in the DBKU International Cat Competition 2024.

With his elegance and grace, Rimba impressed the judges from Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.

Jordan was thrilled when Rimba was named “Best Cat,” especially since he had not anticipated Rimba would take home the title.

“Watching Rimba shine among so many competitors made the moment even more special, and I couldn’t help but feel proud of this incredible journey leading up to this achievement.

“Although, we’ve participated in a few other events, this is the first time Rimba has won at this one,” Jordan said excitedly.

Rimba was named because of his striking features, which resemble those of a wild jungle cat.

“His sleek, powerful appearance and natural grace capture the essence of a creature that might roam the forests, which makes the name ‘Rimba’ — meaning ‘jungle’ in Malay — perfect for him,” Jordan explained while discussing the inspiration behind the feline’s name.

Jordan also said grooming alone isn’t the sole reason Rimba has maintained such a beautiful coat and excellent health.

“Proper nutrition, regular exercise, and consistent care have also played a significant role in Rimba’s overall well-being and striking appearance.

“He is quite high maintenance, and I give him a mixture of boiled chicken and some raw chicken to balance his diet,” Jordan explained.

When comparing Rimba to the other cats he has owned, Rimba is exceptionally active and always full of energy, constantly engaging in playful antics that keep him on the move.

“His playful nature sets him apart, ensuring every moment spent with him is lively and entertaining.

“He will play with just about anything that moves, not limited to his toys; as long as it’s moving, he’s eager to engage with it,” Jordan said.

Rimba is the only male among his siblings, proudly born to a Snow Bengal mother and a father who shares his striking colour, making him a unique addition to the family.

Additionally, Jordan offered some tips for future cat owners who plan to enter their cats in competitions, recommending they begin their preparations for at least three months to ensure their cats are fully ready for the event.

“It’s advisable to prepare three months before competitions, emphasising the importance of enhancing your cat’s appearance while prioritising their overall well-being.

“For example, if your cat is too slim, which isn’t ideal, you can provide them with supplements like vitamins and a proper diet to help them gain some weight, and the same principle applies in reverse,” he advised.
