MUKAH: Sports are not just games but a way to keep us healthy.
Politeknik Mukah (PMU) director Hisamudin Mohd Tamim, said that good health is key for a successful society.
“Through sports activities, it directly contributes to better mental health.
“It’s no surprise that the government places emphasis on the sports sector to produce a healthy populace.
“Evidence of this is in the organisation of programmes, competitions, and championships in the field of sports,” he said during the Opening Ceremony of the 1000 Liga Taekwondo Championship of the Mukah Division, at the PMU Multipurpose Hall, here, yesterday.
More than just physical fitness, Hisamudin believed sports bring Malaysians of different backgrounds together.
“It’s a chance for us to work together, understand each other better, and even make friendships. Sports also teach us discipline and help discover hidden talents,” he added.
This championship event was put together by the Mukah Youth and Sports Ministry, the Tunas Mukah Taekwondo Club, and PMU.
97 young athletes, ranging from preschoolers to PMU students, took part in the championship. They competed in 20 categories, with ages from six to 22.
Also present was the Assistant Officer of Youth and Sports for the Mukah Division, Mohammad Arbi Rosli.
