KUCHING: Toh Puan Ragad Kurdi Taib, the wife of former head of state Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, has issued an open letter to Sarawakians, saying that her priority now is only to take care of her husband for now.
She appealed to the people to stop all the “assumptions and malicious accusations” against her.
“For the past few days, it has been circulated in social media that tarnished my image and reputation as the wife of the former Head of State.
“My only concern at the moment is the wellbeing of my husband, Tun Taib.
“Please do not believe in any of the rumours being said about me,” she said in the letter which was shared to a media group via Whatsapp last night (Feb 5).
Ragad said although she is foreign-born, nevertheless, she is now a Malaysian and will always be a Malaysian.
“I will not leave the country and will continue with my charity works toward Sarawakian after Tun Taib gained his health back, Insyaallah.
“This being said, I hope all of you can come together and pray for Tun Taib. Thank you,” she added.
Yesterday (Feb 5), she also took to her Instagram account and denied that she had removed Taib from a hospital against doctors’ advice.
Earlier, a police report went viral on social media about Taib being checked out from a private hospital by Ragad while he was undergoing treatment.
Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata confirmed in a statement that the police had received a report on the matter.
He said the case was being investigated and appealed to the public not to speculate on the issue as action could be taken against those sharing false information.
