KUCHING: UMNO Youth chief Dr. Muhamad Akmal Saleh has been urged to set a good example and show maturity, even when he disagrees with the actions of a federal government minister.
Bandar Kuching MP Dr. Kelvin Yii said that the former should avoid resorting to ‘name-calling’.
“Whether we agree or disagree with the action or statement, as a young leader, he should bring mature and well-reasoned arguments to the table to refute a statement or to offer constructive criticism on the issue at hand,” he said in a statement today (Apr 13).
Dr. Yii, who is also the DAPSY National Chief, said Muhamad Akmal should instead argue policy with policy, present better proposals, and engage in mature discourse.
“With this approach, our politics can truly mature and add value to our society. Our political discourse cannot merely devolve into name-calling or mud-slinging, which has degraded its current state.
This should be the aspiration of all young leaders in our country as we advocate for a more mature democracy and a shift away from outdated politics that do not add value to society,” he said.
Earlier, Muhamad Akmal responded by saying that the Housing and Local Government Minister, Nga Kor Ming, lacked intelligence for attributing the call for a boycott campaign to Malaysia’s weak economy.
