PKR No 2 calls allegation is to assassinate his reputation and political career

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali yesterday strongly denied the allegation by an individual who attempted to link him in a sex video.

The Minister of Economic Affairs was confident that it was a nefarious plot to assassinate his reputation and character in an attempt to destroy his political career.

“I utterly condemn this brand of gutter politics which was malicious and cruel,” he said in a statement.

“It has no place in this era of New Malaysia, where we are working to rebuild the nation through institutional reforms,” he said.

Azmin said he had instructed his lawyers to take appropriate legal action against the individual who made these abominable allegations as well as against other perpetrators.

He said he will avail himself of all legal means at his disposal to expose the culprits concerned.

He further said he was confident that the latest in a series of attempts initiated over the past few months was to vilify him and his family in the final week of Ramadan as well as the vile and baseless accusations of corruption.

“I will not submit to these cowardly acts and heinous attempts to distract the public from the pressing concerns of the nation and the successes of the Ministry of Economic Affairs in the planning and implementation of national development policies that are sustainable and inclusive.

Azmin was confident that the Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) would take all necessary measures concerning the wild allegations.

It was viralled in the social media that a sex video purportedly involving Azmin and another man and an allegation that a sum of money belonging to a company was channelled into the minister’s account.

Meanwhile, UEM Group Berhad (UEM Group) clarified in a statement yesterday that it did not have an account as stated in the allegations made in various social media websites.

It also disclosed that it did not have an account in the Kuala Lumpur Maybank main branch.

“In order to clear the name of the company, UEM Group had lodged a police report and was prepared to cooperate with the authority concerned,” the statement said.
