Police bust ‘Ah Fong’ gang in Sarawak

KUCHING: Police in Sarawak have busted the Ah Fong gang, suspected to be behind 40 house break-ins and 30 vehicle thefts in the Kuching, Padawan and Kota Samarahan districts.

Kuching district police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said the gang comprising three individuals, was immobilised with the arrest of the group’s ringleader, Chen Bong Fong who is also known as Ah Fong, on Tuesday, along with two remaining members.

The trio aged between 20 and 40, have been detained in connection with the Prevention of Crime Act 1959.

Speaking to Bernama recently, Awang Din said investigations showed the gang members were hardcore criminals who were also drug addicts and were involved in the smuggling of stolen cars into Indonesia.

A total of seven vehicles, as well as equipment used to carry out the thefts, were seized during Tuesday’s operation. – Bernama
