MIRI: Five individuals—four men and a foreign woman—were apprehended by the Miri Narcotics Crime Investigation Department for their involvement in drug distribution activities.
The arrests took place on Wednesday (May 18) around 11am in the residential area of Taman Shang, according to Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu. The suspects, aged between 30 and 52, are all locals except for the 33-year-old woman.
“During the inspection by the arresting team, three transparent packets containing crystal powder suspected to be methamphetamine, weighing 102.25g and worth RM10,225, were discovered.
“Additionally, cash and two vehicles with a total value of RM88,637 were seized. The total value of all the seized items amounts to RM97,862,” ACP Alexson stated.
The five suspects will be brought to the Miri Court Complex for a remand application. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
If convicted, the offenders may face severe penalties, including death by hanging or a lifetime in prison, along with a minimum of 15 strokes of the cane.
