KUCHING: Police have crippled Gang Jalil, a vehicle and cable theft syndicate, with the arrest of 19 locals here.
Members of the syndicate, which has been actively targeting cars and motorcycles, were nabbed in a series of raids from July 16 to 31.
Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah in a press conference, said this would be the eighth syndicate the police have crippled this year.
All of the suspects aged between 14 and 49, tested positive for drugs and all had prior records related to drugs and other crimes.
“With these arrests, we managed to solve eight cases which involved losses up to RM50,000.
“So far, the suspects have been charged in court for their involvement in four cases under Sections 379, 411 and 457 of the Penal Code,” he said today (Aug 2).
Also seized were a Proton Saga car, four Honda and Modenas motorcycles, two sets of keys, a machete, a crowbar, four cutters and six rolls of cables.
The public has been urged to channel any crime-related information to the Kuching police operations room at 082-244444 or relay it to the nearest police station.
Also present was Ahsmon’s deputy Supt Merbin Lisa and Criminal Investigation Division (CID) chief DSP Mohd Hafizi Ishak.
