MIRI: Police here believe they have crippled two gangs which were active in house break-ins and thefts. This pertains to their recent arrest of nine men, including two buyers of stolen goods.
Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said all suspects were detained in an operation carried out since Oct 3 till last Wednesday, at various locations.
He said the men, aged between 29 and 31, were picked up at separate locations in the city here.
“All the suspects were arrested in Lutong, Piasau Utara, Senadin and Permyjaya between Oct 3 and Oct 7,” said Lim to the local media during a press conference held today at Miri central police station (CPS).
The groups, known as ‘Gang Toni’ and ‘Gang Richard’, had been active in housebreaking and theft cases in Senadin, Piasau, Lutong and Permyjaya.
During the operation, a task force team of the Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) seized stolen items including two antique pounder naval deck cannon and a motorcycle, all valued about RM120,000.
The team was led by ASP Unang Giang, Inspector Fredly Juing and Inspector Erwin Geofrry Ussan.
“With the arrest of the suspects, police believed that they have managed to solve 24 house break-in cases in Miri involving an estimated losses of RM200,000,” he said today.
Seven of the suspects have previous criminal records in housebreaking, theft and drugs related offences.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house breaking.
