SIBU: A couple was arrested by police on suspicion of being involved in substance abuse last Wednesday.
District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the arrest was carried out by a team from the Sibu Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID), around 12.10pm at Jalan Oya here.
The team spotted a four-wheel drive vehicle in suspicious circumstances and proceeded to inspect the vehicle.
“They found a couple aged 34 and 33 inside the vehicle. Further inspections were carried out and resulted in the discovery of a plastic packet containing crystalline substances suspected to be methamphetamine.
“The drugs, weighing 6.50g, were discovered under the steering wheel,” he said in a statement.
He added that the couple and the seized items were taken to Sungai Merah police station for further action.
It is understood that both individuals had previous criminal records related to drug abuse.
Stanley pointed out that the couple would be remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
