The Sarawak police are actively pursuing leads in the investigation of a shooting incident at a Sibu coffee shop on New Year’s Day.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said details are being withheld to avoid hindering the ongoing investigation, and updates will be provided once significant developments, such as suspect arrests, occur.

“We will inform the media once we have further details, such as the arrest of the suspects and so on. Commenting further at this point may interfere with the ongoing investigation,” he said during a press conference at the Sarawak police contingent headquarters here on Friday (Jan 5).

He was responding to concerns raised by Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, assuring the public that the situation is under control, and the safety of Sibu residents is a top priority.

“Currently, the situation in Sibu is under control. No need to worry. The police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the suspects, and the public can rest assured that safety in Sibu and Sarawak is still under control,” Comm Mancha affirmed.
