Police nab five men for theft

MIRI: Police arrested five local men aged 21 to 33 years, for stealing an aluminium ladder and water pump from a house in Senadin, here on Friday (Sept 3).

District police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said the house owner had lodged a report on the theft which occurred last Monday morning.

Police also seized a motorcycle that was used to transport the stolen items.

The house’s closed circuit television (CCTV) captured an image of two men riding on a motorcycle around 8am on Monday which stopped in front of the house before the men climbed up the house gate and took away the aluminium ladder and the water pump.

Following the report, police nabbed the suspects at several locations in the district.

The first two suspects were detained in Tudan Desaras and at the Lutong -Kuala Baram road during an operation carried out by Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) between 2pm and 3.45pm.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both on conviction.
