Police nab lorry thief after 7km chase

MIRI: A 45-year-old man was arrested after failing to make an escape in a stolen three-tonne lorry midnight of Wednesday.

“The man was spotted by Mobile Police Vehicles (MPV) personnel in Miri Bypass road, before the 7km chase started and ended in Jalan Bintang traffic light intersection,” said Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah.

The lorry was reported stolen by its owner in Pujut 4A on Christmas eve.

“With the arrest of the suspect, we consider the case as solved, and the suspect will be charged soon,” Lim added.

On another case, Lim disclosed that three suspects involved in an assault and robbery case of a jogger in Taman Bumiko last Friday had been arrested.

“The suspects were picked up in Sibu two days ago and police also seized the rented car that they used during the incident,” he said.

The suspects are currently being detained at Miri central police station (CPS).

On Friday at 6pm, a 25-year-old jogger was assaulted and robbed by five men who had earlier on rammed the victim from behind while he jogging at Taman Bumiko.

The suspects fled the scene with the victim’s gold necklace and a handphone worth RM3,000.
