Police nabs three men for housebreaking, theft

MIRI: Police detained three local men to assist in investigations into theft of construction equipment and tools missing from a construction site at Jalan Nakhoda Gampar here, less than four hours after they were reported stolen on Saturday.

All three suspects aged 25, 47 and 52 years were picked up from various locations in the city by a team from Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) during ‘Ops Pintu’.

The construction materials comprising iron cutting machine, water pump, welding sets worth about RM8,000 were kept inside the renovated building when they were reported missing last Saturday morning.

A police report was lodged by the contractor soon after the discovery. Acting on the report lodged, Miri CID mounted ‘Ops Pintu’ to locate the culprits and the missing items.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari, in confirming the arrest, said one of the suspects have at least six previous criminal records.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and theft which provides for imprisonment of up to five years and a fine.
