KUCHING: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is launching a special intake for non-Bumiputeras for the position of Constable grade YA1 for the year 2021.

Bukit Aman Management Department director Datuk Ramli Din said all non-Bumiputera Malaysian citizens could apply through the PDRM e-pengambilan website from March 18 to 31.

“At the same time, PDRM will conduct interviews in major cities throughout Malaysia and eligible applicants can come for the interview sessions.

“Preference will be given to non-Bumiputera applicants who are proficient in speaking their mother tongues,” he told a press conference in Bukit Aman today (Mar 11).

He said the special intake was put into action after it was found that although many non-Bumiputeras applied for positions in the police force, many did not have credit in the Bahasa Malaysia (BM) subject for SPM.

As such, Ramli said PDRM had appealed to the Public Service Department (PSD) to lighten the application conditions.

“We cannot simply loosen the conditions so all this is subjected to the approval given by the PSD.

“Under normal circumstances, to qualify, an applicant needs two credits in the BM subject and one other subject along with four passing subjects.

“But in this special intake, only one credit is required for any subject and those who do not get credit in BM can also apply,” he explained.

Ramli added those recruited into the police force without credit in BM must retake their examination to obtain their credit within six years.

“Members who fail to do so will be terminated from service,” he cautioned.

Ramli said some of the required documents to be brought during interviews included the original certificates of identification, qualification certificates and other related certificates.

He added that there was an unlimited quota for the special intake as the police force needed many constables this year.

To date, 78 percent of the police force consist of Bumiputeras while the rest are non-Bumiputeras.
