KUCHING: The High Court here ordered a police officer, who is the sole perpetrator in the murder of his second wife, to defend himself on Nov 9 and 10.

Judicial Commissioner Christopher Chin found a prima facie case when deciding at the end of the prosecution trial against accused, Mohammad Sohffian Abu Hassan, who has the rank of ‘Inspector’.

The 38-year-old was charged with killing his second wife Siti Nadrah Abdullah, 33, by shooting the victim at 3.15pm on May 21, 2019 at Kampung Kakai, Serian because of jealousy.

The accused faces charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries a mandatory sentence of death by hanging if convicted.

The accused, who was stationed at the Belaga police station, was arrested by police at a house in the Batu Kawa area after fleeing from the scene.

Investigations found that the victim at the time of the murder was two months pregnant.

The weapon used was a pistol reserved for police officers in carrying out official duties and it was confiscated as evidence.

Deputy public prosecutor Musli Abdul Hamid prosecuted while the accused was represented by counsel C.M Sundram.
