KUCHING: The police will be deploying teams from the Criminal Investigation Department and Narcotic Crime Investigation Department as well as additional armoured vehicles to ensure that the public adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) on New Year’s Eve.

“The police would like to remind everyone that New Year celebrations involving large crowd and fireworks are not allowed. This includes convoys.

“Anyone found flouting the SOPs will be compounded or arrested or asked to leave,” a police statement announced today.

It added that the teams, including those from the general task force and multi-purpose patrol cars will be mobilised in all districts.

Such preventive measures, according to the statement, are aimed at helping to minimise public gatherings that could spread Covid-19, and also to prevent illegal motorcycle racing.
