KUCHING: An investigation paper has been opened on Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan’s Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) breach during his recent visit to Matu, Mukah.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail denied claims that no action was taken by the police on the matter, which went viral on social media and caused an uproar among netizens.
“Sarawak police deny these claims as an investigation paper has been opened under Section 21A of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).
“The investigation paper has been referred to the Sarawak director of prosecution and is awaiting a decision,” he said today.
Aidi also advised the public to be careful when issuing any comments or statements on social media to avoid any misunderstandings.
Earlier today, Awang Tengah said he would settle the compound issued by the authorities.
He explained that he forgot to put on his face mask as he was in a rush to get to the airport after his visit.
