KUCHING: Sarawak police have opened two investigation papers pertaining to an act of bribery in Selangau and an act of vandalism in Kabong.
A police spokesman for the 15th general election (GE15), Supt Douglas Nyeging Taong in a statement, said they have received five police reports pertaining to election offences on yesterday (Nov 11).
The police have received a report in Selangau where the complainant received a voice message via WhatsApp, alleging that the complainant had collected food payment money from a competing political party.
Because of that, an investigation paper was opened under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for sharing or dissemination of false, offensive, and threatening content, and Section 10 of the Election Offences Act 1954 for bribery.
“Meanwhile, another investigation paper under Section 427 of the Penal Code, was opened for committing mischief and causing loss or damage to another individual’s property.
“The case happened in Kabong after two posters of a contesting candidate and the Premier of Sarawak has been sprayed with paint,” he said.
Nyeging added that they also received a police report in Sibu Jaya where a complainant denied allegations of a man who claimed to be given a donation of RM200 after he came to the office to check his son’s voter list.
Aside from that, the police also received a report from an Election Commission (EC) enforcement officer regarding the act of uprooting a political party’s flag that was found raised at an area where the party is not contesting.
Such act was found to be in violation of the conditions and regulations provided under the Election Offenses Act 1954 and the case is referred to the EC for further action.
As of Nov 11, Sarawak police have approved a total of 326 permits for political parties to hold their campaigns and political talks throughout the state.
All political parties contesting in GE15 are advised to remind their supporters not to commit any illegal acts in order to maintain the peace and harmony of the people in this state.
