MIRI: Police have arrested a 48-year-old man for allegedly raping an underage girl in a hotel here last September.
The victim aged 16, had known the suspect through an online social application some time in 2019.
“However, they only met in September last year for a drinking session.
“The victim, believed to be drunk, was brought to a budget hotel by the suspect where he allegedly had sex with her.
“The following morning, the victim woke up to find herself naked in bed with the suspect, who later sent her home,” a source said.
On Jan 13, the victim lodged a police report after she felt pain in her genitals despite having received treatment after the incident happened.
Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari confirmed that the suspect was arrested an hour after the report was lodged.
A CID team went to a house in Piasau and arrested the suspect who is being remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile in a separate case, a man in his 30s, believed to be under the influence of drugs, went berserk in his home at Kampung Piasau Utara.
Nearby villagers rushed to the house and immediately alerted the police for assistance.
The police arrived and arrested the man, who was later handed over to Miri NCID office for further actions.
