KUCHING: Penang police chief Datuk Seri A. Thaiveegan made an official visit to the Sri Srinivasagar Kaliamman Temple at Jalan Ban hock here yesterday.
He was greeted by some 100 people along with leaders of various Indian organisations.
Among those who received him were Indian community leader, former penghulu T Komarusamy, Sri Srinivasagar Kaliamman Temple president V. Sahundararaju and Sri Maha Mariamman Temple president Shankar Ram Pohumal Asnani.
Thaiveegan, who had a brief stint in Sarawak from 2008 to 2009, was accompanied by Bukit Aman Management (Training) deputy director Datuk Narenasagaran and his spouse.
In his short speech to the local Hindu community, Thaiveegan reminded them to always seek knowledge, skill and strength as preached by sages and saints of the religion in the past.
He emphasised that knowledge was the key element to success and without it any community would collapse.
He advised the locals to choose credible and capable leaders to lead the community and once chosen, the community must work together to support these leaders.
Thaiveegan also reminded Hindus that religion was a personal relationship with God.
