MIRI: Police have launched an investigation into a fatal collision involving two lorries on Jalan Pan Borneo KM859 (Ladang Tiga), early morning today (Dec 20) which claimed two lives.
According to Miri District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, authorities received a report on the incident at approximately 1.30 am.
The crash involved a trailer driven by a 49-year-old man and a Hino lorry operated by a 26-year-old driver.
Preliminary findings indicate that both vehicles were travelling towards Miri when the Hino lorry collided with the rear of the stationary trailer, which had been parked on a bus stop ramp.
“The collision caused extensive damage to the front of the Hino lorry and significant damage to the rear of the trailer,” Alexson said.
Tragically, the Hino lorry’s driver and a 31-year-old passenger were crushed in the wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation paper has been opened under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Authorities are continuing their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
