KUCHING: The Padawan police special task force, with help from members of the public, caught an Indonesian man for vehicle theft yesterday at 10.30am at Kota Sentosa.

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said at 4.30am, a police team was doing surveillance work near a shophouse at Serapi Corner when they spotted three men acting suspiciously.

When they approached them, the trio ran off in different directions and managed to evade the police.

The three motorcycles left behind were later discovered to be stolen ones. Aidil said one was reported to have been stolen in Kampung Gita yesterday at 3.40am, another at 2.30am at Metro City and a third on Monday at 8.25am. All three motorcycles were seized and taken back to the police station for investigation.

At 10.30am, Aidil said his men were patrolling the Unaco area in Kota Sentosa when they came across one of the three suspects who had escaped. They gave chase and with the public’s help, they caught him.

The suspect called Angke admitted that he and his two friends, also Indonesians, had escaped earlier in the morning. He said they had stolen more than 10 vehicles in Padawan, Kuching and Samarahan area.

Found on him was a set of tools used for starting motorcycles and cars.
