KUCHING: Sarawak police received five reports pertaining to election offences on Sunday (Nov 13).
A police spokesman for the 15th general election (GE15), Supt Douglas Nyeging Taong in a statement, said two of the reports were regarding two men seen damaging a political party’s flags and poster along Jalan Kampung Boyan in Kuching.
One of the suspects was arrested by the police while, the second suspect is still at large and efforts to track him down is underway.
The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing loss or damage to another individual’s property.
Aside from that, Kuching police also received a report from a representative of a political party, claiming that a banner containing provocative words was put up at a roundabout along Jalan Sultan Tengah.
“We also received a police report in Sibu pertaining to a banner written ‘vote GPS, vote UMNO’, and it was found to be in violation of the conditions and rules set by the Election Commission (EC).
“The last police report was made in Sri Aman after an unidentified man had uprooted a political party’s flag.
“No damage was done to the flag and it has been re-installed in its original location,” he said.
As of Nov 14, Sarawak police have approved a total of 290 permits for political parties to hold their campaigns and political talks throughout the state.
All political parties contesting in GE15 are advised to remind their supporters not to commit any illegal acts in order to maintain the peace and harmony of the people in this state.
