ASAJAYA: Police have called on the community to keep being their eyes and ears on the ground in the effort to check crime.
Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner DCP Datuk Mancha Ata said, although the cases of drug abuse in this district are under control, the community should continue cooperating with the police.
He said from January to August last year, there were a total of 40 drug cases and 46 arrests in Asajaya. In the same period this year, there were 44 cases and 54 arrests.
“This success is the result of the hard and continuous efforts of the police who work hard round-the-clock to curb the drug problem in the district.
“We will be more successful in eradicating the drug problem in this district with you being the eyes and ears of the police,” he said at a Community Policing Programme at the Asajaya Sports Complex here on Saturday (Oct 1).
Therefore, Mancha called on all levels of society to not leave the effort entirely to the police.
In the meantime, he also reminded the community to be responsible for their own property as well as that of other people.
He added that the district recorded a decrease in property crime which amounted to 36 cases from January to August this year.
Compared to the same period last year, he said, a total of 45 cases were reported in this district.
At the same time, he also reminded the public not to be easily deceived by various fraudulent tactics such as online fraud, Macau Scam, non-existent loans and investments and other forms of fraud.
Mancha said that in the district, there was an increase of two cases, with six cases reported from January to August this year compared to four cases during the same period last year.
Also present were the Head of Crime Prevention and Community Security Senior Assistant Commissioner Lukas Aket, Kota Samarahan District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Brodie Branka, Asajaya district officer Rais Ahmat, police officers and community leaders.
