Police seek public help to track ‘Along’ in Engkilili swiftlet nest heist

LUBOK ANTU: Police are on the hunt for a man known as ‘Along’, linked to the theft of swiftlet nests in Engkilili on June 7.

Lubok Antu police chief DSP Victor Ripon said the suspect’s real name is Mohamad Farizull Sofian, 22, with his last known address at No 25, Jalan Parit Lama Barat, Kuching.

“The suspect is believed to be hiding in Kuching after attempts to contact him failed.

“Anyone with information on his whereabouts, is urged to report them to Sgt Bibi Dayana Baharudin at 014-5976592, Lubok Antu police station at 083-584102, or the nearest police station,” he said.

The crime took place at around 3.30 am, when four men, travelling in a Proton Persona, arrived at Rh Will Stuga, a building housing swiftlet nests.

Victor added that the CCTV footage from the building, monitored via phone, showed two individuals attempting to enter using cutting tools.

“Once inside, the wanted suspect, who has five prior records for drug abuse, stole the bird’s nests and sold them at a shop in Mile 7, Kuching,” he said.

Since then, police have launched a manhunt and arrested three of the suspect’s accomplices, all locals aged between 30 and 40, on Oct 14.

Two of the accomplices were charged on Oct 21 in the Sri Aman Magistrate’s Court, while the other was made a prosecution witness.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for burglary.
