KUCHING: Police seized 202.59kg of drugs with an estimated value of RM14.3 million in the first seven months of this year in Sarawak.
Women, Childhood, and Community Well-being Development Minister Datuk Sri Fatimah Abdullah said this was recorded through enforcement operations from January to July.
“Polic seized compressed drugs and substances, along with 8,486 pills, with an estimated value of RM14,397,598.20,” she said in a press conference on the success here today (Aug 27).
Fatimah said during the same period police recorded 226 cases and 338 arrests for drug supply and distribution offences across the state.
“The Sarawak government remains committed to supporting efforts to curb the supply of drugs and illegal substances by fully backing the police in carrying out operations.
“At the same time, we will continue to actively implement drug prevention education programmes as well as treatment, rehabilitation, and intervention programmes,” she said.
She stressed that cooperation from all parties, particularly the community, is essential in coming forward to provide information and collaborate with enforcement agencies, especially the police.
“This is so that we can achieve success in tackling the issue of drug and substance abuse in a holistic and integrated manner in Sarawak,” she pointed out.
She also congratulated the police for apprehending four suspects and seizing 105.02 kg of syabu (methamphetamine) worth an estimated RM3.3 million on Aug 24 in Miri.
“This seizure is estimated to have saved 525,100 addicts from further drug abuse,” she said.
