PADAWAN: A parcel left uncollected at a courier company in Jalan Batu Kitang here was seized on Tuesday (Jan 19) as it was found to contain 2.10kg of marijuana.
On Jan 4, a courier company staff notified the police that a parcel, sent from New Focus Auto Sdn Bhd, No 11, Jalan SS 25/34, Mayang Industrial Park, Taman Mayang (Kampung Tunku), Petaling Jaya, Selangor was not claimed and suspected to contain drugs.
The parcel addressed to CJ702, Jalan Batu Kawa, Batu Kawa New Township was supposed to be collected by the recipient but no one showed up.
District police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan when contacted, said a police team was instructed to monitor who would be collecting the parcel from the day the report was lodged until Jan 19.
“However, no one claimed the parcel and at 11am, a police team went to the courier company and inspected the parcel.
“They found a brown box containing four compressed lumps of dried leaves, each wrapped in transparent plastic wrapping and suspected of being marijuana weighing around 2.10kg, with a street value of RM4,000.
“The items were seized and handed over to Padawan NCID for further action.”
Supt Aidil said no arrests were made thus far as the parcel was unclaimed.
Efforts to contact the person at the number provided proved futile as the number was not in service while the address of the recipient was non-existent.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
