KUCHING: State Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Dev Kumar said police are now focusing their efforts on tackling drugs in the state as other crimes are under control.

Dev said Sarawak police will focus on drug pushers as police tend to catch drug addicts but not the kingpins.

“Although drugs-related cases in the state aren’t serious, police have to take the necessary action to avoid it from getting out of control,” he told a press conference after inspecting a passing out parade of the General Operations Force (GOF) at Pulapol, here yesterday.

He explained that big drug busts can cripple illegal drug trades.

Dev also said that Sarawak overall is a peaceful state and has seen a decrease in criminal cases this year.

On the Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S) members who failed to stand for the national anthem, he said police had already submitted the investigation papers to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) for further action.
