Police to probe footage of car thief beaten by public

KUCHING: The district police will investigate a footage of a suspected car thief beaten by members of the public.

District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said, on July 21 at 10pm, the police detected the video going viral on Facebook uploaded by a user named Boboi Sot.

“The two minute and 51 seconds video showed a suspect caught and beaten by members of the public, who suspected to be involved in a car theft case.

“We have confirmed that the suspect was handed over to us for further investigation under Section 379A of the Penal Code on July 11 and the suspect was remanded until July 21,” he said in a statement today.

Ashmon also said the police will conduct thorough investigation of the case, including the beatings of the suspect by the public.

The district police chief reminded the public to not take any actions into their own hands as it is against the law. He also urged the public to not make any speculations while the investigation is underway.
