KUCHING: On 24 July this year, the Sarawak Land and Survey Department created history when it signed a document of mutual agreement on the policy and procedure of rocks and minerals sale to states or countries outside Sarawak with a total of 18 state and federal agencies and departments.
Officiating at the signing of the mutual agreement was State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi bin Abdul Ghani at a leading hotel in Kuching.
This working policy and procedure was produced through a project known as
“Key Focus Activity” (KFA) which is an inisiative under eight critical Action Plan of Sarawak Civil Service 2010 – 2020 (SCS 10 – 20 Action Plan) with the aim of transforming the Sarawak Civil Service towards achieving a ‘World Class Civil Service’.
This SCS 10 – 20 Action Plan was masterminded by Sarawak State Secretary himself and has achieved great success in enhancing the quality of Sarawak State Civil Service.
The policy and procedure will come into force on this coming 1 August and will become the sale process of rocks and minerals sale from the State of Sarawak to outside states and countries in a more systematic, efficient and effective manner.
At the same time, it will help in monitoring and controlling the acts of exploiting natural resources that could cause damage to the environment apart from maintaining and sustaining the natural resources in order for them to be sufficient for use by future generations.
