AFTER a delay of almost three years because of the COVID19 pandemic, Malaysia’s most popular cop action blockbuster franchise, “Polis Evo”, returns to complete its trilogy with “Polis Evo 3”.
The movie is set to be released in cinemas nationwide in Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei on May 25.
“Polis Evo 3” brings back buddy cop duo Zizan Razak as Inspector Sani and Shaheizy Sam as Inspector Khai — the mainstays of the “Polis Evo” franchise.
The film also stars big names such as Sharnaaz Ahmad, Nora Danish, Syafiq Kyle, Douglas Lim, Farali Khan, Fauzi Nawawi, Fezrul Khan and Eyka Farhana.
What’s interesting about the franchise is that it showcased the abilities and unique direction of different directors; the first “Polis Evo” (2015) was directed by Ghaz Abu Bakar and grossed RM18 million, “Polis Evo 2” (2018) by Joel Soh and Andre Chiew grossed RM25 million.
For the third instalment, director Syafiq Yusof was the one chosen to lead the project, as he made another daring attempt in the action-comedy genre.
He promises to offer more action, more drama, and more explosiveness. It also features the expansion of the “Polis Evo” family through new characters who will join in the fun and complement the ‘bromance’ between Inspector Khai and Inspector Sani.
During the “Polis Evo 3” press conference at Six in the City, Petaling Jaya, late last week, Syafiq explained that his take on the film is different.
“Of course I want to bring something different to the third ‘Polis Evo’ movie, but I feel like I don’t want to make this movie better than the first and second movies.
I want this film to have its own impact. I hope that the audience will watch the movie and recognise that this is a Syafiq Yusof film.”
The theme song for the film, titled “Ayuh”, also made a buzz recently. The song was composed by none other than Malaysian rap legend Malique, and it is performed by the rapper himself, Kmy Kmo and Aman Ra, as well as powerhouse vocalist Ernie Zakri.
The song marks Malique’s first song release in six long years, and it perfectly encapsulates the vibe and the action of “Polis Evo 3”.
The film was made under the partnership of Astro Shaw with Skop Productions and TGV Pictures. Raja Jastina Raja Arshad, executive producer of “Polis Evo 3” and vice president of Malay Nusantara Business and Head of Astro Shaw, said, “It is hoped that the return of the franchise after five years will provide excitement to fans and audiences, both locally and abroad, as well as to the local film industry.”
