KUCHING: A total of 1,200 new students went for the orientation at Politeknik Kuching Sarawak.
New Sarawak Tribune managed to speak with five of the students — Paula Pansy (Kuching), Qhairisha Fatema (Kuching), Harshini (Selangor), Alifiddin Akbar (Kampung Bako) and Mohd Adha (Taman Sri Wangi).
Harshini, 18, said personally, Sarawakians were friendlier than folks back in Kuala Lumpur.
“Kuching people also prefer to speak more in English and that’s why I chose to come here.”
She added that Politeknik Kuching Sarawak offered learning in and outside the classroom, and that suited most of the students.
Politeknik Kuching Sarawak gave them a chance to study, do practical work and accumulate experience, which will prove particularly useful when they look for a job after graduating.
Paula, 18, said she preferred Politeknik Kuching Sarawak because it was closer to her home. “I have more friends here,” she added.
Paula, Qhairisha Fatema and Harshini are taking Diploma in Digital Technology.
Meanwhile, Alifiddin also said he chose Politeknik Kuching Sarawak as it was closer to home.
Mohd Adha said the campus was one of the best in engineering studies.
