KUCHING: A leadership forum on how youths can become global shapers in the modern economic climate will take place this Saturday, courtesy of The Sarawak Initiatives (TSI), a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
The event, ‘Borneo Youth – Agent of Change in a New Malaysia’, will be held on Jan 14, from 9am till 12pm at the Riverside Majestic Hotel, Astana Wing, here.
Guests for the forum are by invitation only but there will be a live streaming at TSI’s Facebook page, thesarawakinitiatives, to members of the public interested in joining the event.
TSI said in a press statement that it will be an impact event covering youth and the future, touching every aspect of lives in a global, borderless and high technological age.
“The forum will also touch on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), economics, culture, national identity and unity, education and political philosophies,” TSI added.
Political analyst Dr James Chin, a professor of Asian Studies at the University of Tasmania, will act as the moderator.
The panellists are from both sides of the political divide, including Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii of the Democratic Action Party (DAP); Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman and Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS); Kota Belud MP Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis of Parti Warisan and party leader Jo-Anna Sue Henley Rampas.
Fazzrudin is also the chief political secretary to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, while Jo-Anna was Warisan’s candidate during the 15th general election for the Tuaran parliamentary constituency in Sabah.
“We are charting our destiny and navigating in this turbulent world, post pandemic of COVID-19, economic uncertainty, among others.
“This is an event not to be missed. Overall, we are preparing our youths, grooming them to become good leaders,” TSI said.
The NGO is pursuing five specific objectives, with a global perspective, focusing on issues facing Sarawakians to help the people attain a high level and standard of education; create a peaceful and harmonious living environment; cultivate good values and integrity; create a unique Sarawak identity based on its cultural diversities; and create a healthy economy.
In June 2020, TSI held a series of leadership programme conferences, touching on various topics. The programme, which ran till the end of 2021, attracted some 600 aspiring youth leaders. Selected participants were invited to submit their community outreach project proposals.
