KUCHING: Sarawak has no choice but to sue Petronas if the national oil and gas company refuses to pay the five percent sales tax on petroleum products and if all avenues fail, opines a political observer.
Datuk Peter Minos (pic) said Petronas made billions of ringgit — up to almost RM50bil a year — from Sarawak oil and gas but Sarawak was only asking RM3bil yet they are still being difficult.
“Shell and Murphy Oil have complied and paid but not Petronas.
“This is too much…clearly shows Petronas and its masters, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government, totally do not care or feel concerned about Sarawak and its people. No feelings at all for Sarawak,” said Minos.
“When others are suppressing and bullying Sarawak like this, we Sarawakians must stand together and set aside our differences.
“A ‘Sarawak First’ must be the way. There cannot be another way if we want Sarawak to be respected and honoured,” he added.
Regarding any Sarawakian who sided and supported Petronas and the PH federal government on the issue, Minos said, “Let them be because we are true Sarawakians fighting for our due rights and for our own wellbeing and future.”
He said there was nothing that could be done to those who did not care for Sarawak, “but let them not stop us from doing what is right.”
Minos said Sarawak had repeatedly asked for 20 percent royalty from oil and gas and that too had fallen on deaf ears, “and now five percent sales tax request also, Petronas is reluctant to pay up.”
“We need no other proof that those in Kuala Lumpur are not thinking of us in Sarawak, much less having any kind or nice thoughts of us,” he said.
Hence, Minos said Sarawak had no option but to get behind its own leaders “and stand on our own feet, slog on, progress and survive”.
