KUCHING: Sarawak is going to hold its 12th state election soon not because of political turmoil (like in Melaka) but because the term of Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) has expired, aid Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
“What happened in Melaka is not the same as in Sarawak because politics in the state is stable and there are no incidents of party jumping,” he added.
Asked to comment on the just concluded Melaka state election, the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu vice-president said, “The result shows that the people of Malacca want political stability and make Barisan Nasional (BN) the government that will continue to develop the historic state,
“With that, I would like to congratulate BN for winning 21 of the 28 seats contested in the polls.”
Commenting further, Dr Abdul Rahman said that introduction of many new faces had also made BN this time more acceptable, including in areas previously controlled by Pakatan Harapan (PH).
On Saturday, Melaka voters gave BN a big victory at the state election, allowing the coalition to secure a two-thirds majority in the 28-seat state assembly.
BN won 21 seats with United Malays National Organisation (Umno) bagging 18 followed by Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) with two seats and Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) winning one.
Meanwhile, Pakatan Harapan (PH) won five seats while Perikatan Nasional (PN) won two.
