KUCHING: The date of the 15th general election (GE15), which is an important day to decide the government which will administer the country for the next five years, should hopefully be held on a rest day such as the weekend.
Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) board director Dr Gregory Hii said that it would be suitable for the polling day to be held on Saturday or a rest day such as the weekend.
“It should help in having more voters turning up to cast their votes without having to make arrange to take a few hours off from their work or even make arrangements to take time for an off day,” he said when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
When asked, which date seems suitable for polling to be held, Hii said it is more likely to be on Nov 12, 2022.
According to him, a general election is the day when the rakyat collectively will decide on who will be their government for the next five years.
“We want the best such as candidates who genuinely care about our welfare and our future irrespective of race, religion and culture to be elected.
“Come rain or shine, the young and old, we must turn up to vote. When everyone turn up and perform their responsibility as eligible Malaysian voters, this will ensure voter turnout will exceed 75 per cent for GE15.
